Miss Africa USA 2014 Contestants:

From Uganda...

Hasifa Kivumbi

At 25 years of age... Founder, Clean Water for Uganda project, Founder and CEO of 180 Doors INC, Spokesperson for the Uganda North American Association (UNAA)... Realizing that we are blessed to be a blessing to others I knew that I had a big responsibility to the many girls and women of my country whom to this day are still walking those long grassy miles for that liquid gold. It was then that I created the Clean Water for Uganda project: www.cleanwateruganda.org

OurQueens asked Hasifa Kivumbi five questions...

Why do you believe you should be crowned as the winner of this year's Miss USA Africa contest?

I believe that I should be chosen as this year's winner because we have to invest in my platform for water security. Unless we all have access to safe water, we will lack access to the proper nutrition, proper medication and essential vaccines all of which are the keys to opening the doors to Africa's vitality and getting her out of survival mode.

How do you view yourself progressing after being crowned? What are the next steps you have mapped out?

I have spent the past two years working on my platform. Today The Clean Water for Uganda Project has restored 3 wells. If crowned I plan to return to Uganda for as Miss Africa USA to continue to use my voice as we prepare for our fourth well restoration and a construction of a state-of-the-art well to be completed in October.

We've lost quite a number of sensational and beautiful contestants to the panel judges' "interrogation questions" when all is done putting out a good show. How do you tend to overcome the fear of pageant questions fired from the judges?

I have studied many top pageants as part of my preparation for this pageant. What I have noticed is that a lot of contestants spend a lot of time preparing for other segments of the pageant but neglect to prepare for the judges' interviews and in return their whole glorious journey crumbles in a matter of 30 seconds. I have planned to overcome this by preparing for this section as much as all of the other parts. I study top common or similar pageant questions and assess my true knowledge and philosophies about them.

What animal best describes you? Why?

The animal that best describes me is the humming bird. All of my life I have been told that I have a very big heart. Since the humming bird's heart takes up more than 20% of its body mass, I consider myself to be like the humming bird... small but with a big heart.

What has been the most significant achievement in your life?

What I consider to be my biggest achievement so far was the formation and incorporation of my Non Profit organization called 180 Doors Inc. whose mission is to elevate Africa through initiatives like the Clean Water for Uganda Project: www.cleanwateruganda.org
