From Nigeria...

Lily Ogechi Udumukwu

Double majoring in Engineering Physics and Economics with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Miami, I've been able to fuse my passions for innovative technology and philanthropy towards branding a better Nigeria. Through a national fellowship award, I launched the iXL Initiative Incorporated; a nonprofit organization with the ultimate aim of upsurging human capital and tackling economic disparities plaguing my country.

OurQueens asked Lily Ogechi Udumukwu three questions...

What has been the most significant achievement in your life? Why?

Becoming an award recipient of the Atlantic Coast Conference-International Academic Collaborative Creativity and Innovation Fellowship. After visiting my home, Nigeria over a 10 years hiatus, I was overwhelmed with all its potential, especially in that of the youth. On my return, in fact, during the 12 hour flight back, I drafted a proposal detailing a personal mission I conceived to alleviate and elevate my people. I coined it, The iXL Initiative Inc. and with prayers and fasting, submitted this project to the above Committee. Weeks later, I received a congratulatory email and a Fellowship grant to fund this project in Nigeria; and with this endorsement I began to truly see myself as a leader, one that could serve as a vehicle for progress and prosperity to my great nation, Nigeria.

What animal best describes you? Why?

A dolphin... They are creative creatures and are contagiously happy with boundless energy and an appetite for learning about new things and meeting new people. They bring joy to others and are keenly perceptive to the needs of those around them. Like me, they are vivacious and popular enthusiasts, tend to get bored easily, and they are always ready for the latest and the greatest in friends, relationships, experiences, and ocean jumping.

We've lost quite a number of sensational and beautiful contestants to the panel judges' "interrogation questions" when all is done putting out a good show. How do you tend to overcome the fear of pageant questions fired from the judges?

Confidence and a cool head. Every other aspect of the pageant can be prepared for to the T, but the Q&A portion. The key to success here is to relax, smile, and proceed with the mentality, that "it's only a question."
